Re: SPECIAL JHU GRADUATION SCHEDULED FOR NCAA LACROSSE, TRACK ATHLETES

WHAT: The Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse team has advanced to the NCAA Division I semifinals Saturday in Philadelphia; several other Blue Jays are set to compete in the NCAA Division III track and field championships starting Thursday in Canton, New York. The problem: The event schedules require seniors on the two teams to miss Thursday’s university commencement. The solution: Johns Hopkins will hold a special ceremony to allow the graduates (10 lacrosse; one men’s track; two women’s track) and their families to celebrate before the teams leave.

WHEN: Tuesday, May 19, 3 p.m. EDT

WHERE: Trustee meeting room, third floor, Hodson Hall. Park in South Garage, 3101 Wyman Park Drive, Baltimore, Md. 21211.  [Directions.] Take elevator up to Decker Quadrangle. Hodson Hall is building 29 on this map. Walk between Garland Hall and Clark Hall to Hodson, just outside the northwest corner of Decker Quad. Trustee room is up one floor from quad level.

DETAILS: The graduates and university officials, including President Ronald J. Daniels and Provost Robert C. Lieberman, will be in academic dress. Daniels will preside and deliver remarks. The athletes’ families and coaches are invited.

Participating athletes:

Men’s Lacrosse (10):

Phil Castronova, Bel Air, Maryland (midfield), B.A., economics; Robert Enright, Massapequa, New York (defense), B.A., economics; Brady Faby, Lutherville, Maryland (attack), B.A., political science; Bronson Kelly, Easton, Connecticut (midfield), B.A., economics; John Kelly, Sandy Spring, Maryland (defense), B.A., economics; Drew Kennedy, Wayne, Pennsylvania (midfield), B.A., political science; Michael Pellegrino, Oakdale, New York (defensive midfield, captain, 2014 second-team All-America), B.A., economics; Nikhon Schuler, Niskayuna, New York (defensive midfield), B.A., economics; Eddie Schurr, Mahopac, New York (defense), B.A., international studies; Wells Stanwick, Baltimore (attack, captain, 2013, 2014 honorable mention All-America; 2015 first team All-Big Ten), B.A., political science.
